  33.  boundaries of good taste.  Even today, he is extremely productive

  48. being.  Various battles ensue as daemons try to destroy mankind.  -AN

  59. powers.  She fights a whole series of super villianesses lead by this one
  60. arch-villainess, who she fights at the end of the series (does this sound
  61. familiar?).  The manga is definitely violent, sexy, and pretty outrageous
  62. in parts.  The anime is toned down substantially.  -GF

  64. Shuten Douji

  66.   It's about this baby who was brought to our world by an oni (ogre).
  67. A childless couple, who happened to be praying at a shrine for a child,
  68. takes the baby from the oni and adopts him.  When he grows up (high school),
  69. he begins to have doubs whether or not he is human or oni.  There always
  70. seems to be a mysterious force helping him which appears to be an invisible
  71. oni.  Anyway, soon a mysterious cult of oni worshippers target him because
  72. they believe he is the incarnation of Shuten Douji who, in their hiearchy of
  73. gods, is the lightbringer or disrupter of darkness.  Lots of battles,
  74. graphic violence, mysticism, tying in with folklore, eventual time travel,
  75. dimensional travel, and very interesting plot twists.  -AN

  87.   Hannape's life is interrupted by two demons. One is this green cloaked
  88. male being with a bazooka.  The other is a female furry being with a tail,
  89. which projects her magic. Among the things that occur is that Hannape is
  90. cursed with his index finger resembling a sexual organ and any time it is
  91. pointed at a female (humanoids at least), they become sexually aroused.
  92. As you might guess, it gets fairly extreme. It is amazing that despite the
  93. fact that he has not really changed his drawing style that much, he still
  94. manages to convey a sense of sexual vouyerism.  -NA

  132.  Brains (from Thunderbirds), appears in all her mangas.

  141. God Save the Sugekoma-kun!

  143.   A series of short stories centering on the Sugekoma, a highschool prodigy
  144. with severe behavioural problems, and Miss Matsuzawa, the teacher who he ties
  145. up all the time (but she still holds hope for his future).  It's a big send-up
  146. of SM cliches, H manga, SF, and otaku culture.  Nagano's art is certainly at
  147. its most refined and inspired here.  There is a minor subplot concerning
  148. the other students - Junko Fujieda, who can't stand perverts, they make her
  149. violent; and Murata, a masochist who's infatuated with her. -IS

  185.   This is a cute manga about highschool life. Chitose has to change to a
  186. poorer school due to the death of her rich father. But the business of her
  187. father had collapsed, and the only thing she got is a pink (!) goldfish
  188. (that can fly).  She met Wapiko, Shu and Aoi in her new school, but soon knew
  189. that the poor school is too poor to continue its operation. Accidentally, she
  190. got several billions of dollars left in the bank by her father, and she
  191. re-built the poor school. The manga is full of funny cute stuff. Animals
  192. walking around, and face changes from time to time. Very funny, and popular
  193. in Japan.

  210.   Nozomi Witches used to be the number one serial on YJ during its peak
  211. around 89-90.  During its beginning (vol. 1-5) it concentrated on this
  212. young, talent, ex-actress high school girl who return from New Zealand,
  213. and she met her next door neighbor Ryotaro.  (The 15 year old male lead
  214. of this story.)  The next phase of this series is around vol 6-17, with
  215. the main emphasis shifting from Nozomi to Ryotaro as he tries to qualify
  216. for the Seoul Olympics.
  217.   From vol. 18 on, is the current phase of this manga (which Nobe called
  218. Book II), It's about Ryotaro's pro boxing life, and the parallel life of his
  219. boxing friend/enemy/understander Yugo Fukuyama.  At this stage the 
  220. drama side of the story is almost non-existent, and there is really no 
  221. suspense between Nozomi and Ryotaro.  Character designs also changed.   -CPK

  239.   KO Taimaseiden is a sequel to Kujaku-Oh, which brought a second occult
  240. boom to Japanese manga scene. Kujaku-Oh became more of an Epic Occult Saga
  241. after a few volumes, but this sequel is back to the "Demon Hunt" style
  242. that the original Kujaku-Oh was intended to be.
  243.   Kujaku is a buddhist monk who belongs to Ura-Kouya, a secret
  244. organization within the Shingon Sect of Buddhism, sole purpose of
  245. which is to destroy demons/monsters. Kujaku was born with the power of
  246. Kujaku-Myouou (Mayuri Vidya-raja, also referred to as Lucifer in some
  247. occult books) which he uses to fight the forces of evil. He's supposed
  248. to have lost his Kujaku-Oh power when he and his twin sister (The Beast of
  249. 666) neutralized each other, but he again used power of Kujaku-Oh in Vol.3
  250. of Taimaseiden.
  251.   The world of Kujaku-oh is filled with religions, mythology, gods,
  252. demons, monsters, powerful sorcerers/priests. If you like this kind of
  253. stuff, Kujaku-Oh will fill all your needs.  However, good knowledge of
  254. religion/mythology is required for full enjoyment of this manga.  -TK

  258.   Mao is the name Kuukai (The founder of Shingon Sect and Kouyasan)
  259. used when he was young. Being enraged by the corrupted nobles and society,
  260. Mao quits the college and becomes a rebel (sort of Robin Hood type) but
  261. got captured by a general named Saknoueno Tamuramaro. While being
  262. tortured, he's visted by a mysterious Bosatsu (Boddhisattva) who
  263. gave a revelation regarding the "True Path." After the encounter, Mao
  264. sets on a journey to find the one who can be his mentor.  The manga adds
  265. lots of Ogino's creative imaginations to the historical facts.   -TK

  311.   In 2023, the teenage delinquent Kaneda rides the streets of Neo-Tokyo.
  312. Kaneda's unstable friend, Tetsuo, is the subject of a secret military
  313. experiment which continues the work of the Akira project -- a project
  314. which accidentally started WWIII years before.  Tetsuo's new psychic powers
  315. lead to the revival of Akira, and Akira destroys Neo-Tokyo in a moment of
  316. fury.  While Tetsuo carves an empire out of the ensuing chaos, his enemies --
  317. Kaneda, other psychics, and the US military -- prepare to take him out.
  318. But Tetsuo's powers are increasing, and his ability to control them is
  319. decreasing...
  320.   AKIRA is a special phenomenon, partly because of the huge success of
  321. the movie, and the popularity of Western adaptations.  However, Japanese
  322. readers lost interest towards the end of the manga, and the final volume
  323. (whose ending slightly expanded on the original) took nearly three
  324. years to be published.

  330. The Legend of Mother Sarah

  336. when there is an exodus back to Earth.  This manga is a story of Sarah's
  337. efforts to be reunited with her children.  The art is very polished, but
  338. the story is cliched and excessively grim.

  348. away from his nurse, so that they can showcase their product;  however,
  349. the sickbed begins to run amok when they neglect the old man.  An unusual
  350. and thoughtful piece.
  351.   The manga is pretty scrappy, but the OAV is a nice piece of work (for which
  352. Otomo only did the mecha designs).  Character designs were by Eguchi Hisashi,
  353. the artist of "Age".

  419.   Both of these are basically submarine combat manga.  Drawing styles are
  420. somewhat similar to Yokoyama Mitsuteru's later years.  Excellent combat
  421. sequences and drama.  Multiple sub-combats (kind of unrealistic now I know
  422. more about it, but it was great when I was a kid), funky looking subs,
  423. interesting weapon systems.
  424.   He predates Matsumoto Reiji, who became synonymous with mech-battle manga
  425. in 70s.  Ozawa writes better looking humans though.  I was deeply disappointed
  426. when neither show made it onto the TV.  Perhaps some enterprising person will
  427. make an OAV.  Better than the Red October!  -SA

  726. human again (and Pai's quest for a brain ^_^). However, like Ranma, it seems
  727. to have a cult following. There is a little something in here for everyone -

  1137. than the last" thing. I think though, that Toriyama should have ended it
  1138. after the Freeza battle. I mean, Freeza was the strongest in the
  1139. universe and Gokuu beat him. (Vegeeta was supposed to be the strongest
  1140. when he first appeared but I kinda figure that was just his ego talking)
  1141. After that, what can you do? The cyborgs and Sel (Cel?) are a real

  1325.   Like his other work I just mentioned above, the Demon Legend stories are
  1326. very loosely connected.  There are no regular characters except the four Demon 
  1327. Gods, which probably weren't Yano's creation anyway (The man is obviously 
  1328. heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft).  This is not a drawback, however, as the 
  1329. lack of regulars gives the author the freedom to create/kill-off his 
  1330. characters, and thus a real sense of danger for them.  One of the short 
  1331. stories, Dark Mermaid, stands out as a particular masterpiece (It was 
  1332. reprinted in Family Comics).  The rest of the stories are no less interesting 
  1333. either.  There are occasions, however, when a plot twist seems artificial 
  1334. just to achieve convenient dramatic effects.  Yano also employs a liberal 
  1335. amount of female nudities during important scenes - just so to keep your 
  1336. attention on the page, although explicit sex never occured in this manga.  
  1337. Given the kind of people who reads Comic Nora, however, these tactics are 
  1338. useful and often necessary, and therefore not a problem with me.  Yano seems 
  1339. to possess a lot of creativity, even though he seems to have trouble focusing 
  1340. it.  Coherent or not, Yano's stories can still be very involving.  This is 
  1341. another series I would recommend manga lovers to look into.  -DM

  1415. fight other ninjas who are working for rebellious factions.

  1423. series around the same time (kind of stupid with lots of monsters, but I
  1424. liked it).  Remade into an anime in the late 80s.

  1428. an espionage story concerning the BF group who made 3 giant robots GR1, 2 and

  1431. series 'Susume Gianto Robo' which was silly.  Now being remade into an anime

  1442. A young boy breaks into a research lab and destroys some samples.  It turns
  1443. out that he is a powerful esper.  A secret organization had somehow obtained
  1444. some of his blood.  The blood sample was labeled "From test subject #101."
  1445. Hence the title of the manga.  His blood, when injected into other people,
  1446. will cause the manifestation of psychic powers.  The boy has found out about
  1447. this, destroys the blood samples, but is too late.  There have been already
  1448. many psychics created, and they are evil.  It's him against the organization.
